Business matters taken up during Monday night’s meeting of the Russell County Fiscal Court included:
- 3% cost-of-living raise was unanimously approved for employees in the county road department, county judge’s office and jail. The raises will take affect at the beginning of the new fiscal year on July 1st and will total approximately $18,000. Raises for employees of the sheriff’s department and county clerk’s office were previously factored into their respective budgets.
- Rita Johnson and Denzil McGinnis were reappointed to the local airport board. John Stivers was approved to serve on the airport board….he replaces Rick Mann who resigned recently due to other obligations.
- The Court approved its annual donations toward the operations of the county’s four fire departments, the rescue squad and the Faubush Fire Department which serves Russell County residents in the Jabez community. The Jamestown, Russell Springs, Eli and South Russell Fire Departments will be receiving $7,500 each….the Russell County Rescue Squad $5,000….and $3,000 to the Faubush Fire Department. That is the same amounts allotted to these agencies last year by the Fiscal Court.
- The county will be applying for three “Paint The Town” grants of $2,000 each. If awarded, the funds will be used to beautify the outside area of the Russell County Courthouse with new landscaping, repairs and paint to rails, and other general improvements. The county’s portion of the grant can come from “in-kind contributions” and donations.
- The Fiscal Court voted to transfer $100,000 from the county’s general fund to the jail’s operational fund.
