A Jamestown man was arrested Monday afternoon in connection with a fire at Pike Alley Apartments. The Jamestown Fire Department was called out at 2:45 after a 911 caller reported smoke was coming from the apartment building. Upon arrival a few minutes later, firefighters discovered the fire in the lower left apartment had been extinguished, however, a large amount of smoke was still inside the apartment building resulting in firemen using exhaust fans to help clear the smoke. An investigation into the cause of the fire led to the arrest of 20 year old Scotty Wright. Jamestown Police Lt. Tony King told WJRS NEWS that Wright was charged with Arson and Resisting Arrest. He was lodged in the Russell County Jail.
The Jamestown Fire Department was also called out early Monday morning to the Peckerwood Mobile Home Park, about 3 miles south of town off of U.S. 127. Fire officials told WJRS NEWS an unoccupied mobile home was totally engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene just before 4 a.m. The owner, and origin of the fire, has not yet been determined but remains under investigation.
