Three Adults, Infant Escape Serious Injury When Pickup and Car Collide at Main Street Stoplight

Airbags and the use of seatbelts are being credited with preventing serious injury to three adults and a two week old baby during a collision Sunday afternoon at the stoplight on Main Street in Russell Springs.  RSPD Asst. Chief Jamie Rogers told WJRS NEWS the crash occured at 1:52 p.m. and involved a 1996 Ford F250 pickup being driven by Alex Miller, 19, of Russell Springs and a 2005 Nissan Altima being driven by Matthew Hopper, 28, of Columbia.  The vehicles collided at the intersection as the Miller truck was northbound on Ky. 379-Main Street and the Hopper car was eastbound on Ky. 430-Jamestown Street.  According to Asst. Chief Rogers, the impact of the collision put both truck and car into a spin with the car coming to rest only after striking the “Spotlight Hair Salon” and the truck came to rest after striking the former “Western Auto Store” building.  Miller escaped injury during the collision, however, Matt Hopper, his wife Jessica, and their 2 week old daughter Addison, were taken to the Russell County Hospital where Matt was treated for lacerations to his head and face while Jessica and baby were examined for possible injury.  The exact cause of the collision is still under investigation.
