Bids were opened yesterday for a new Russell County Health Department. According to Jonathan Smith of Branscum Construction Company, construction manager for the project, more than 60 bids were submitted for the various aspects of construction which totaled $2,032,546. The bids amounted to nearly $400,000 less than the $2.4 million appropriated for construction. Smith said construction on the new 16,000 square foot health department is expected to begin within the next two months. The facility will be built just off of Fruit of the Loom Drive in Jamestown.
